Jewelry is delicate by nature. With gentle care, your Montlune Crystal pieces can maintain their beauty for longer. This guide provides general care recommendations for crystal, gemstone, pearl, plated, sterling silver, stainless steel, and mixed-material jewelry. Please always follow the material details and care notes listed on each product page.

Everyday Care

Put your jewelry on last after skincare, makeup, perfume, and hair products have fully dried.

Avoid direct contact with:

• Water and moisture
• Perfume and alcohol-based products
• Lotion, oil, sunscreen, and cosmetics
• Sweat and prolonged skin oils
• Household cleaners and chemicals
• Chlorine, salt water, hot springs, and pools
• Hard impact, pulling, or excessive friction

Remove your jewelry before showering, swimming, exercising, sleeping, cleaning, gardening, applying skincare, or using perfume.

General Cleaning

For most jewelry, the safest method is gentle dry cleaning:

1. Wipe the piece gently with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth after wearing.
2. Remove fingerprints, skin oils, and light dust with light pressure.
3. Let the piece air dry completely before storing if it has been exposed to humidity.
4. Store it separately in a pouch, jewelry box, or soft-lined compartment.

Avoid soaking jewelry in water. Water may affect plated finishes, elastic cords, silk thread, adhesives, pearls, porous stones, and certain delicate components.

Avoid ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners, harsh jewelry dips, toothpaste, baking soda, vinegar, alcohol, bleach, ammonia, abrasive cloths, rough brushes, paper towels, and soaking mixed-material jewelry.

Natural Crystals & Gemstones

Natural crystals and gemstones may vary in hardness, density, porosity, and sensitivity. Some stones are relatively durable, while others can be more delicate and sensitive to water, heat, sunlight, or chemicals.

• Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after wearing.
• Avoid dropping or knocking stones against hard surfaces.
• Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, especially for color-sensitive stones.
• Avoid chemicals, perfume, skincare products, and cleaning agents.
• Store separately to prevent harder stones from scratching softer materials.

When in doubt, use only a soft, dry cloth and avoid water, heat, chemicals, ultrasonic cleaning, and soaking.

Pearls

Pearls are organic and delicate. They can be affected by perfume, sweat, cosmetics, acids, moisture, dryness, and hard impact.

• Put pearls on last after perfume and skincare have dried.
• Wipe gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth if needed, then dry immediately.
• Do not soak pearls in water.
• Do not use ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners, or chemical jewelry cleaners.
• Store pearls separately from metal chains and harder gemstones.
• Avoid sealing pearls in overly dry plastic bags for long periods.

Plated Jewelry

Plated finishes are surface layers and may naturally fade, darken, or oxidize over time. The speed of change depends on wear frequency, skin chemistry, moisture, sweat, friction, and exposure to chemicals.

• Keep it dry.
• Avoid perfume, lotions, oils, sunscreen, and alcohol-based products.
• Remove before showering, swimming, exercising, or sleeping.
• Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after wearing.

• Avoid polishing too aggressively, as this may wear down the plating.

Tarnishing, fading, or surface changes caused by normal wear, moisture, sweat, cosmetics, chemicals, or friction are generally considered natural wear rather than a manufacturing defect.

Sterling Silver

Sterling silver may naturally tarnish when exposed to air, humidity, sweat, cosmetics, sulfur-containing substances, or chemicals.

Rings are exposed to frequent contact, impact, water, hand soap, sanitizer, and skincare products. Remove rings before washing hands for long periods, applying lotion, cleaning, exercising, or carrying heavy objects.

Keep earrings clean and dry. Wipe posts, hooks, or clips gently with a soft cloth after wearing. For hygiene reasons, avoid sharing earrings with others and store each pair separately.

Necklaces and chains can tangle, kink, or break if pulled or stored improperly. Fasten clasps before storing, lay chains flat, and keep delicate chains separate from heavier pieces.
